Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about booking, the tour and dates at a glance.
How does booking work?
On every tour page, the “Choose a date and book” button opens the booking calendar: pick a date and time, enter your contact details, done. The booking confirmation arrives by email right away and your date is reserved - no advance payment needed. Tours are booked exclusively for one group or one family, not per person.
Which payment methods are accepted?
You pay on site on the day of the tour, by card or in cash. No advance payment is required when booking online. For school and company enquiries, payment is made by invoice instead.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the tour starts, simply by email or phone. For later cancellations or no-shows, the agreed price is payable in full.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Tours take place in all weather, and suitable clothing is usually all you need. Only in objectively dangerous weather (for example a storm warning or thunderstorms) will the tour be cancelled or postponed - free of charge and regardless of the usual 24-hour deadline.
How late can I book?
Bookings are possible up to 48 hours before the tour starts. For last-minute requests outside this window, please email andrea.otto@discover-weimar.de directly.
Which languages are the tours offered in?
The tours are offered in German and English, and you choose the language when booking. This also applies to the school tour. The family tour runs in German, English on request.
Can I bring my dog?
In principle yes, but dogs are not allowed at some stops, such as the Park an der Ilm, the Historic Cemetery or inside buildings. It is best to let me know in advance, and the route will be adapted accordingly.
Is the tour suitable for strollers?
Yes, for most tours this is no problem. The exception is the park walk “Auf Goethes Spuren” (In Goethe's Footsteps) with a few uneven sections of path - here too an alternative route can be found, so please let me know in advance.
What happens in case of illness or cancellation on your side?
If I have to cancel at short notice, a colleague from the Verein der Stadtführer Weimars e.V. (Weimar city guides association) will take over the tour wherever possible, so the date can still go ahead. If that is not possible, you owe no payment at all; any amount already paid or invoiced is refunded in full.
How can a company book a programme for an event?
Use the link “Request with invoice” below the booking box of each tour, or the enquiry form directly: state your preferred date and the number of participants, and the rest is arranged together. Payment is then made by invoice, with no advance payment.
Are groups of more than 25 people possible?
The tours are designed for up to 25 people, the school tour for up to 30 people including teachers. For larger groups, I can add cooperating Weimar city guides on request, for up to 50 people. Simply state the actual group size in your request.
Where is the meeting point, and where can a coach stop?
The exact meeting point is listed on each tour page, usually the market square in front of the town hall. If your group arrives by coach, drop-off and parking options are agreed in advance.
From what age is the family tour suitable?
The family tour is for children and teenagers aged 6 to 16, with stories and places to marvel at and explore. It is told in two tones: for children aged 6 to 12 and for teenagers aged 12 to 16. Younger siblings are welcome to join - just mention the children's ages when booking.

The tour takes 120 minutes and covers about 3.5 km. We start at the market square in front of the town hall and finish at the Goethe-Schiller Monument on Theaterplatz.
How much does the tour cost for a school trip?

How is payment made?
By invoice to the school after the tour, with no advance payment. You enter the billing address directly when booking.
How short-notice can we book?
You can book the city tour at short notice, online up to 48 hours before the date. If you would also like to visit the Buchenwald Memorial, plan much earlier: guided group visits at the memorial often need to be booked 1 to 1.5 years in advance.
Can we cancel or rebook free of charge?
Yes, up to 24 hours before the tour starts.
Does the tour take place in the rain?
Yes, the tour also takes place in the rain. Please bring weatherproof clothing and comfortable shoes.
Is the tour available in English?
Yes, for example for bilingual classes or international student groups. You choose the language when booking.
Can you help with planning the rest of the trip?
Yes. With the add-on module for €25 you receive a written list of recommendations for the remaining 2 to 4 days of your school trip: suitable museums, theatre and concert offers as well as restaurants for school groups. Please note that I cannot make bookings with museums, theatres or restaurants on your behalf.
